Scott Gore
Dillsburg, PA
Scott Gore is a digital artist who resides in Dillsburg, PA. At 38 he has been featured in numerous galleries and art publications. He received his Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from Millersville University and his Master of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Towson University .
When not fulfilling his artistic visions, he is pursuing his other love, teaching others about Art and Design. Scott has been a professional academic for twelve years and currently works at Carroll Community College in Westminster, Maryland as a Professor of Art and Design. He is the Chairperson of the Fine and Performing Arts Department.
Scott is a Digital Printmaker who creates Original Limited Edition Giclee Prints. His artistic style is difficult to label, inspired by a vast range of traditional and alternative art forms. The core intent of his work lies in Expressionism focusing on utterly subjective perspective, violently distorting it to obtain an emotional and vivid effect. His work is a combination of German Expressionism, Pop Art, Pop-Surrealism, Lowbrow Art, Urban Contemporary, Urban Alternative Art, and Comic Books. His work shares much with these modern art movements; figurative focus, the cultivation of narrative, and their emphasis on technical skill.
His earliest influences were comic books, which changed the way he saw the world. As a child he was fascinated by the way comic books used the power of visual story telling to communicate. As an adult, comic books remain a deep influence on his work as they represent an ever-morphing medium that mirrors the events and values of the times, and both informs and provokes public reaction. For Scott, comic books ground his artwork by combining the power of art and modern trends with history, a sense of myth, character, and narrative. Through his work he expresses the meaning of being alive.
Living and Breathing
Art is psychotherapy for my troubled soul. I am deeply burdened by the sway of my emotions, and I frequently respond to life with excessive intensity. That burden is like a collar restricting my breath, preventing a full and healthy inhale. It chokes me. So, I use art as a method of self-expression and, for better or worse, as a therapeutic tool.
The thoughts we have, the actions we take, the experiences we live, and the people we meet help to define who we are. My work is an emotionally charged scrapbook of thoughts, internal conflicts, personal deliberations, and external forces, all of which define my very existence.
When my art imitates my life, the act of rearranging visual information becomes an act of personal insight, clarifying and defining the complexity of my personal issues. Art expands the depth of my self-knowledge and the richness of my life's experiences. I am grateful for that practice.
