The collection is housed in a former carriagehouse in Historic Downtown Lancaster. This area of the city is commonly referred to as the Backstage Art District. It forms part of the hub of artistic, dining, shopping and cultural activities in downtown Lancaster; a walking distant from the convention center, Central Market, the Fulton Theater and Gallery Row.

The crown jewel of Lancaster County is Lancaster City. It is also, the seat of the County's government, financial and cultural center. Historic downtown Lancaster is a vibrant art, shopping, dining, historic and cultural destination. No visit to Lancaster County would be complete without a trip to Historical Downtown Lancaster.

The charm of the city is rooted in its historic past. It was established in 1730, and became a convenient starting point for travelers going west. It also served as the capital of Pennsylvania from 1799 to 1812. It still has hundreds of historic landmarks, and as a result it is the country's largest National Historic Registered District.
